The music ministry of St. Peter’s participates regularly in worship and for special events throughout the church year.
The Adult Choir sings at minimum once-per-month during worship at St. Peter’s. We sing music of genres–including chant, baroque, classical, contemporary, Spirituals, and much more. Under the direction of Stephen Bookshaw, the choir has sung the masterworks of “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi with a string quartet, “Requiem” by Faure with the West Michigan Lutheran Chorale, “Requiem” by John Rutter, and much more…. This choir is open to 8th graders and up and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:15 p.m. It is not a requirement to read music.
The Worship Ensemble is the primary music ensemble for the 11:00 a.m. service. This ensemble consists of vocals, piano, keyboard/synthesizer, drums, guitar and any other instrument that is appropriate for the music. The Worship Ensemble has several rehearsals on Thursday and Sunday. Audition is required. Please contact Stephen Bookshaw for more detail.
The Cantate choir is the Jr. High choir for the day school. This choir meets twice per week during the school day and sings in worship and for special concerts and events throughout the school year. This is not just a choir; they learn about Lutheran Worship and the different styles of music in Lutheran Worship.
The Hosanna Choir is a children’s choir for the day school and meets during the school day on Friday afternoon.
The 2014-15 school year is the inaugural year for the band program at St. Peter’s. The band meets in two sections twice per week. The students will participate in the end-of-the-year Fine Arts night on Wednesday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.
